Diagnosis & Education

At Smile! Dental Center, one of our biggest goals for our patients is education. We want you to know everything about your oral health, including what steps may be necessary to keep your smile at its best! Dr. Foust and staff will take the time to discuss your x-rays on our 42″ flat screen monitors, and can also take video and photos to fully illustrate any and all dental issues. We don’t believe in treating a patient unless they fully understand exactly why we’re recommending treatment and how it will help them achieve optimal dental health. By focusing on patient education, our Gibsonia dental team is able to help you protect your smile and avoid any further problems in the future.

We firmly believe “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!”

What are the symptoms of gum disease?
In the early stages of gum disease, called gingivitis, you may not show any symptoms. Once the disease progresses to advanced stages, known as periodontitis, you’ll likely experience some of the following symptoms:

  • Red and swollen gums
  • Gums that bleed
  • Persistent bad breath
  • Loose teeth
  • Painful chewing
  • Receding gums

With gingivitis, the effects can be reversed with a thorough cleaning at our Gibsonia office. Once the disease progresses to periodontitis, our dentists will recommend coming in for more frequent visits to keep your gums free of infection and in the best of health.

How can you treat my TMJ pain?
There are a few ways we approach treating TMD. Dr. Foust will likely suggest trying at-home remedies first, such as applying heat and ice to your jaw, and using over-the-counter pain medications.

If your symptoms continue, we can customize a mouthguard just for you. These small plastic appliances are worn overnight to keep a space between your upper and lower arches, preventing you from clenching and grinding your teeth while you sleep.

What services do you offer that can replace my missing tooth?
At Smile! Dental Center, we offer a variety of restorative treatments such as dentures, bridges, and partials, but our specialty is dental implants. Dental implants not only look and feel like your natural teeth, but they can also last a lifetime.

If you’re interested in learning more about dental implants, contact our office to schedule a consultation by calling (724) 502-4221. During the consultation, we’ll examine your oral health and provide you with information on the benefits of each procedure so you can make the best decision.
